Also known as “La Cité Corsaire” (Corsair Town), Saint-Malo is located in Brittany, France — a region famous for its authentic crêpes and galettes… and so much more!

Discover a few family-friendly activities to do in and around the city of Saint-Malo, whether you’re with young kids, adults, or anyone who’s looking to explore and have fun together.

Explore the old Saint-Malo town

… because you’ll fall in love with the tiny streets, cute boutiques, and medieval paving stones. Saint-Malo is a former fortress, so be sure to walk along the ramparts and enjoy the views!

And if, like us, you forgot your hats and sunglasses, don’t worry – you’ll find something at one of the welcoming local shops.

The center is very walkable, but if you’re tired and need a little break, feel free to hop on The Little Train

The Little Train – Le Petit Train

If you read my blog post about Alicante or Marseille, you already know I’m a little obsessed with tourist trains. If you have kids, they’ll love it — but honestly, adults do too!

This 30-minute ride will help you discover more about the city’s history and landmarks. And who knows — you might even get a sample of “Divines” perfume when the train stops in front of the boutique (not saying that happened to us… but it totally did, lol).

The Ferris Wheel – La Grande Roue

  • For: everyone who enjoys panoramas
  • Not for: people who are scared of heights

But don’t worry — it’s a short ride!

Watch the sunset in Saint-Malo

As a sunset lover, I’ll never stop promoting SUNSETS. Never. And beaches ? Always the place to be.

We went to Plage des Bas Sablons and Plage du Môle to eat crêpes and watch the sunset.

If you love a view with your sunsets, you’ll be served — there are dozens of beaches and so many perfect spots to enjoy nature in Saint-Malo.

Go to the Grand Aquarium of Saint-Malo

What’s more family-friendly than going to the aquarium? Saint-Malo’s aquarium offers a wide variety of marine life — from scallops to sharks.

What I really liked is how immersive some of the attractions are. It’s not just fish in tanks — it’s an experience!

Explore the nearest cities

Take the boat over to Dinard for more views and beaches. You could also go a bit further and visit Le Mont-Saint-Michel, which is less than an hour from Saint-Malo.

That’s what we did — and even though there were lots of hills and steps, it was absolutely worth it!

Last but not least…

Eat ice cream, galettes, and crêpes all day, every day.

We love making crêpes at home, but they always taste better when someone else makes them — especially in Brittany. We always found a spot to stop and eat!

A closer look at some restaurants we liked:

  • Sanchez Glacier (ice cream shop)
  • Le Tourne Pierre

Lovely places where the crêpes and galettes are to die for!
Here are a few pictures of what we tasted — are you already salivating?

To conclude, Saint-Malo was a success ! We had planned to return a few months after this trip but we still haven’t made it. However, I’ll definitely go back soon -hopefully.
